Thank you! Link - possible to dm me here or through insta @suburbansketch? I'll be out of town for the whole seminar, but will be in Quebec on vacation and hope to do lots of sketching!
The Vietnamese community here in Northern Virginia did mark the 50th anniversary but not really as a celebration. Those non-Vietnamese here with memories and ties to the event also marked it quietly, I visited the Vietnam War Memorial on the DC Mall to find a couple of names. But having protested the war and then been present for its end I perhaps have a more complex relationship with it than many. Love reading about your experiences there and how well the people are doing.
Cool story/experience! For the same reasons you enumerated in foot notes, instead of “American” I say in English I’m “from the States/the US” which sounds to me more friendly/casual than “from the United States”. Doesn’t roll off the tongue as well “American” but I cringe less.
I would love to get details about your 2027 vietnam trip. I'm in Chicago and was signed up for your seminar session but had to cancel, so bummed! Vietnam would be a dream!! Also, I find saying I'm from "the States" is a good way to specify where I'm from in English. The shirt experience was so fun to read about.

Thanks for sharing that, it's a super interesting perspective. It is a complicated anniversary for all sides.
Such a sweet story! Vietnam is definitely on my travel list :) even more now..
A charming story… Vietnam seems so amazing. Thanks!
Another wonderful story! I read all the way down to the footnotes and your drippy glass! 😆

I know what you mean and I usually say it that way in conversation. I do wish for a single word though!
